Lower River Wey Remains on Flood Alert as More Rain is Forecast

A flood alert is still in force for the Lower Wey this morning (Sunday, January 5). The Environment Agency website states: “The river and flooding forecast is as follows: Levels on the River Wey remain high and out of banks and are currently still rising slowly in the Guildford area.

The river still just overflowing onto the towpath opposite Shalford meadow.

“River levels are sensitive to further forecast rainfall and further flooding of low lying land and roads is expected. The weather forecast is to expect a mainly dry night [January 4/5] with more potentially heavy rain expected this afternoon. The statement wis timed at 4am Jan 5 2014.

But there is no flood alert at Godalming, Peasmarsh and Shalford or the Wey at Guildford where the river level, at 2.48 metres, is just centimetres above the top of its ‘typical’ range of 2.45 metres.
