Surrey’s grass cutting programme kicks off early

Surrey’s annual grass-cutting programme is set to begin next week, starting three weeks earlier than usual to stay ahead of the growing season. This ensures six cuts in urban areas and two in rural locations, keeping roads and pavements clear, reducing trip hazards, and maintaining good visibility for pedestrians and drivers. Plus, it helps enhance the overall appearance of our public spaces.

We’re investing an additional £1.5 million in grass cutting this year, have changed some of our contractors, and tripled our resources to deliver a more reliable and efficient service for residents. We understand that grass cutting and weed control have been areas of concern in previous years, and we are committed to making a positive change by ensuring a higher standard of maintenance across the county.

What to Expect

  • The first two cuts across all Surrey districts and boroughs will take place between February and April.
  • The remaining cuts will continue through to October 2025.
  • An interactive map is available to show when and where grass will be cut in your area, subject to weather conditions.
  • Designated ‘blue heart’ conservation sites will not be cut until the end of the growing season to support biodiversity.
  • Additional maintenance, including hedge clearing, sign cleaning, and weed control, will be carried out alongside the grass cutting programme to improve Surrey’s highways.
