Volunteers are required to roll up their sleeves and join the Friends of Chitty’s Common for some tidying up of areas that have become overgrown.

Chitty’s Common.

The common is a small wet woodland on the fringe of Stoughton and Worplesdon and is a haven for wildlife.

There will be working parties on Sunday, January 14; Sunday, February,18; Saturday, March 10; and Sunday, April 8; from 10am to 3pm each time.

Everyone is welcome of all ages and abilities, even if you can only spare an hour or two, and it will be a good opportunity to meet like-minded people in the local community.

Meet here by the notice board if you’d like to help out.

One of the organisers, local resident and Guildford Borough Councillor, Pauline Searle, said: “Surrey Wildlife Trust representatives will be present on Sunday January 14th. We will begin in the meadow area to reinstate that part and overtime we will look to work on new projects within the common.

“Please wear warm clothing and sturdy shoes or boots and bring your own lunch. Surrey Wildlife Trust will be providing all equipment and tools and will be donating them for further work parties from funds raised for the common.”

She adds: “To be covered under Surrey Wildlife Insurance while volunteering and working on the common, you can register with Surrey Wildlife Trust either online at surreywildlifetrust.org.uk or contact the volunteering team at volunteers@surreywt.org.uk “
