Surrey Police reports it has charged a man in relation to a series of offences that took place in Guildford on Thursday and Friday January 11 and 12, including a report of criminal damage at Guildford Cathedral.

Joshua Sandford, of no fixed abode, has been charged with five counts of criminal damage, one count of burglary, and two counts of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm and distress.

He will appear at Guildford Crown Court on Monday, February 12. He is currently released with bail conditions.

Guildford Cathedral says insurers have estimated the cost as a result of the damage to one of the panes of glass on its west front door will be £15,000, plus VAT.

The cathedral adds that this does not cover the total costs of the repair and it has launched a fundraising appeal to cover those costs.
