A man has died in a blaze at a first-floor maisonette in Berberis Close, off Cedar Way, Bellfields.
He is believed to be John Greenfield, a retired painter and decorator.
Firefighters were called to the property at about 3am on Monday morning (May 19).
They used breathing apparatus to tackle the fire.
Later on Monday the property was cordoned off and police officers remained at the scene. An investigation is under way to determine the cause of the fire.

We are both very sad to hear of this, John (Greenhouse) had been coming into our shop Pedalpushers for years.
He must have been in his late eighties and still rode his bike everywhere. He was always complaining about bad drivers and the state of our roads (quite rightly). A great character who will be sorely missed.

Indeed very sad and a horrible and frightening way for his life to end. I hope that he did not suffer pain but slipped away in unconsciousness.
RIP John Greenhouse.
