Merrow Photographer is Runner-up in Surrey Artist of the Year Award

Merrow photographer Sue Roche is celebrating after coming runner-up in the Surrey Artist of the Year competition, 2023.

Sue’s vibrant photographs reflect her passion for travel, and capture the simple beauty or intriguing juxtapositions of people, landscapes and architecture.

Winner of the competition, which is hotly contested between the county’s artists every year, was Lucy Dorothy Nichols, a paper and textile artist, who creates paper sculptures with a playful feel.

Reacting to her success, Sue said: “I was so thrilled to have been nominated for Surrey Artist of the Year 2023, alongside many very talented artists, and even more delighted when I was voted Runner-up!

“I am so happy to promote photography as an art form among such a wide range of mediums. Thank you to everyone who voted!”
