‘Miggy’ Reports On Her Marathon Run

One of Guildford’s very own runners in this year’s London Marathon, Margaret Bennett, gives her report…

I completed the London Marathon on Sunday and the occasion was everything I hoped it would be.  The crowds, the bands, the music and the entertainment combine to make it an unforgettable occasion.

After 25.5 miles in Parliament Square - almost there - that's a smile not a grimace!

Despite the recent miserably wet weather even the rain held off on the day and the sun shone. Some runners were even complaining of the heat!

My finishing time of 5hrs.22mins was only a few minutes slower than I had planned – behind Superman and the Wombles but ahead of some of the Rhinos and the guy carrying the replica of the Blackpool Tower!

Most importantly I want to thank everyone who encouraged me and those who sponsored me to raise money for my stroke charities. This morning the total stood at £1070 (with Gift Aid £1313.41) and I believe there are still a couple of donations to come in. I am really touched by the generosity of local friends and neighbours and want to send a very big thank you to everyone who made a donation.

"I did it! here's the proof - I'm still waiting for the phone call from the Olympic Committee!"

It’s not too late to donate and you can see the running total at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/MargaretBennett

Well done Margaret! I didn’t know you were running but I have just added to your ‘pot’.
