Flames have added Canadian forward Alexandre Lavoie, who joins the club with heavy experience from across North America and Europe.
The 33-year-old iced last season in French Ligue Magnus, where he split the season between Marseille and Rouen, posting 13 goals and 39 points in 41 league starts plus 3 goals and 6 assists in 10 playoff games.
During his French debut two seasons prior, he helped Grenoble to the French Cup title while leading the league in assists with 42, and points with 57.
The 5’11”, 185lb, Montreal native began his pro career during the 2013-2014 season with Allen Americans of the CHL where he had 25 goals and 76 points in 60 games and added seven appearances at AHL Oklahoma City Barons.
He was selected to the CHL All-Rookie team and league Rookie of the Year while helping his team to the league title. The pair of terms that followed were at ECHL Florida Everblades and Indy Fuel, where Lavoie had 37 goals, 80 assists and 117 points in 150 games.
His European debut came in 2016-2017 when he moved to BIK Karlskoga of the Swedish Allsvenskan where he was a point a game pace across 61 league and playoff outings and led the league in assists with 38. He eventually moved on to make top-tier stops in Finland, Austria, Norway, Denmark and Slovenia with stays at KalPa, Innsbruck, Frisk Asker, SønderjyskE, and HK Olimpija Ljubljana.
In six QMJHL seasons from 2008 to 2013, Lavoie iced 277 times and registered 244 points from 98 goals and 146 assists.
“With the loss of Chase Gresock for an extended period, we knew we had to fill the spot for the time of his absence,” said coach Paul Dixon.
“Alex has experience in some of the world’s top league’s and is a proven skilled forward who we know can make a very impactful contribution to the club.”
“He arrived on Monday and we are hoping to have him in the lineup when we travel to Scotland this weekend.”
