A man who covertly filmed women and girls, one aged 11, by inserting a camera phone under toilet doors and walls in Guildford has been jailed for nine months at Guildford Crown Court on three counts of voyeurism.

Luke Murdoch, 26 of Worthing, was identified after a media appeal with CCTV footage also circulated on Surrey Police social media channels. He was arrested in December, 2019. Examination of Murdoch’s phone revealed more voyeuristic images of adult women in various public toilets.

His first known offence was in May, 2019. Officers were called to the Spectrum Leisure Centre following reports of a man in the female toilets who was filming under the cubicles. The victim, a 15-year-old girl, had seen a camera phone being placed beneath the stall and ran to tell her sister. They reported this to staff who called police.

Then in October, 2019 officers were called to Burger King at Ladymead after an 11-year-old girl was followed into the bathrooms and photographed on the toilet. Again, staff had called police.

As well as prison, Murdoch was also given a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order. These are issued if someone is considered a risk to the public or an individual and prohibits them from specified behaviour. Any breach is punishable by a sentence of up to five years.
