If you’re thinking about growing your own veg or flowers this year, Guildford Seed Bank is holding its first ‘Seedy Sunday Seed Swap’ on Sunday, February 27, from 11am to 2pm.
Entry is free, swapping is free, or if you have nothing to swap, just contribute 50p per pack that you take away. Bring all your unwanted half-opened packets of seed, or saved seed, to Zero Carbon Guildford, at 14-16 Friary Street GU1 4EH and swap them for something you do want.
The event is open to all, and isn’t exclusively for Surrey-based gardeners.
There will also be seed sowing activities for children.
The seed swap forms part of the launch day for the Guildford Seed Bank, a seed sovereignty initiative aimed at giving the community a thriving, sustainable source of seeds that are adapted to local growing conditions.
If you’re part of a Gardening Group, Allotment Society, school, or business wanting to get involved with the project, please email guildfordseedbank@gmail.com who would also be interested to hear of any local varieties or locally-sourced seed that has its roots in Surrey and the surrounding area.
