Photo Feature: Spring Is Coming at the Castle

The Castle Grounds are a jewel in the crown of Guildford and, despite the hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, there are still some blissfully unaware of it existence.

If you have not visited recently here is a sample of what you are missing…

Whether wandering lonely…, or with your family, or a group of friends, the yellow trumpets of daffodils are always a cheerful sign that spring has arrived.

The castle grounds are a jewel in the crown of Guildford and despite the hundreds of thousands of visitors each year there are still some blissfully unaware of it existence.

During the summer there is always a programme of free concerts at the bandstand. Watch The Dragon for information, once provided by GBC.

Primulas – another promise of spring.

“Get off my patch!” this robin, a faithful resident throughout the winter but fiercely territorial, might be saying to any other robin who appreciates the Castle Grounds, with plenty of crumbs left by picnicking visitors, as an abundant home.

The grounds give good views, over the roofs, to Guildford Cathedral, constructed of bricks made from nearby clay.

Flower beds that will soon be bursting with colour, as spring bulbs bloom.

View from Guildford’s second war memorial, for those who have died in more recent conflicts. A sombre reminder of the cost of freedoms we should not take for granted.

Sometimes it can be worth studying and appreciating the beauty of a single bloom.
