From Jean Bridger
I am very concerned at the possible changes proposed for Chapel Street.
At present it is a quaint old street off the High Street leading to Castle Street and it contains buildings some of historic value.
Some 10 years ago the council upgraded and increased the setts on the carriageway to match the High Street and installed a chicane outside the Cote restaurant
The current proposal to level the street pavements and setts will adversely damage the historic value of the street for very little if any gain.
The current setts do need repair and attention to match the quality of the High street – but this could be done relatively easily without much interference with trade.
Do we really want and need to lose what few diminishing historic aspects of the town we have and are an important attraction to visitors?
Please leave Chapel street as unchanged as possible.

I am in total agreement with Jean Bridger.
It is great just as it is.
If the council decided to even up the pavements it would be good to get rid of a few trip-hazards, but to alter its appearance would be desecration of a historic remnant of Guildford.
