Guildford Borough Council’s Executive reviewed refurbishment plans of its Millmead offices at a meeting on Thursday (May 29).
The scheme brings together a number of projects to improve and update the 30-year-old facilities to make it a better and more accessible place for the public, councillors, staff and visitors.
The first phase of the refurbishment includes:
Modernising the Civic suite with good quality, flexible and adaptable meeting spaces, improvements to disabled access and facilities, including a lift, and heating and ventilation improvements.
Remodelling and refurbishing the main reception area with new meeting rooms and improved access.
Health and safety works including replacement boilers for Old Millmead House.
Refurbishing the canteen.
Phase two includes improvements to internal and external lighting and power, staff access and security and a redesigned area for vehicle deliveries to Millmead.
Following initial approval to bring together all the separate budgets into one project, the proposed design and timescales will be presented to the Executive in November.
Ahead of the meeting, the leader of the council, Cllr Stephen Mansbridge, said: “This significant investment of £2.2million, the first since it was built 30 years ago, reflects the importance of providing effective and accessible facilities. The major improvements will provide a professional, modern business environment with good quality public meeting spaces that properly support the democratic process and delivery of our services.”
