The Royal Surrey County Hospital will be holding a free respiratory health event between 14:00-16:00 at Surrey Sports Park on May 4.

Approximately 12.7 million people in the UK have a history of asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or another long-term respiratory illness.

Led by the hospital’s respiratory nurses, it will cover how to look after your respiratory system, the symptoms to look out for and how to effectively manage common conditions.

Respiratory nurse specialist, Nicola Cummins said: “Lung disease is responsible for more than 700,000 hospital admissions and over six million inpatient bed-days in the UK each year.

“This event will give people the opportunity to learn more about how they can protect their respiratory health and the support that is available.

“Attendees will also have the opportunity to have their lung function tested for free, as well as carbon monoxide readings.

“The team can also check inhaler technique for those already prescribed with an inhaler.”

For more information about respiratory health or to register your interest in attending please email rsc-tr.membership@nhs.net or call 01483 408337.

Parking at the Sports Park is free and refreshments will be available. Registration will be at 14:00, with the presentation starting at 14:15.
