Safeguard Coaches of Guildford is celebrating the outstanding talent and hard work of its staff after hearing it has been shortlisted in the Top Independent Operator category in the UK Bus Awards for 2015.
A total of four finalists were selected from numerous entries after a rigorous process of judging. Following mystery traveller checks taking place this month (October), the winner will be announced at a glittering ceremony on London’s South Bank on Tuesday, November 24.
The annual UK Bus Awards, now in their 20th year, recognise and reward the achievements of the bus industry and aim to inspire others with winning approaches.
Family-owned Safeguard Coaches has been short-listed because it is achieving year-on-year commercial bus patronage growth by continually innovating and delivering a quality service with passion day-in day-out.
Managing director Andrew Halliday said: “We are increasingly demonstrating that buses have a vitally important role to play in providing a sustainable transport option for the congested county town of Guildford.”
Tony Depledge, the chairman of the UK Bus Awards, has praised the quality and talent of the finalists for doing the 20th year of the awards proud, saying: “The spirit of the UK Bus Awards is one of celebration – rewarding hard work and innovation. This year, the finalists have really pulled the stops out.
“Across all 19 categories, our finalists have really impressed us with their star quality. I wish them all every success at this year’s ceremony.”

This piece of very good news has been overshadowed by what has been happening at Guildford Borough Council.
We must congratulate Safeguard and Andrew Halliday on being shortlisted. They give an excellent service to local people and I know how much they are appreciated by people in Park Barn and Westborough. Well done.
