In the second fatal road collision in Tongham within 48-hours, a female pedestrian died after being struck by multiple vehicles just after midnight today (Tuesday, September 28). Another reported fatality in Cranleigh (see below) brings the grim total to three West Surrey road deaths in three days.

Police were called to the A331 near the Ash bridge following reports that the body of a woman had been found in the carriageway.

It is believed she was struck by at least four vehicles and police enquiries remain ongoing to identify them.

At 13.42 today, police said the road was still closed while they continued their investigation.  The road is likely to remain closed for several hours while the investigation into the accident is completed. Diversions are in place but the police are asking motorists to be patient and avoid the area if they can, for the time being.

Early on Sunday morning, a young driver died in a head-on collision with a taxi.
