Detectives in Guildford are appealing for members of the public to come forward following a serious assault outside a pub in the Ash Vale area.
The incident happened sometime between late evening on Friday, December 13 and into the early hours of the following day in the car park of The Old Ford pub in Lynchford Road. Two victims arrived at the venue where a woman was assaulted by another female and ended up in the River Blackwater that runs alongside the pub and which forms the Surrey/Hampshire border.
A man who went to help the victim out of the water was then set upon by a group of around six men and the couple were assaulted again when they retreated back to the car park.
As a result of the fight, a 28-year-old man suffered a cut to his head and chin and a 22-year-old woman suffered bruising and cuts.
Detective Constable Paul Harris investigating said: “This was a serious attack in a public place and I need to hear from anyone who may have information which might help establish exactly what happened here and bring those responsible to justice.
“Surrey Police will not tolerate this type of violent offending and will do everything it can to maintain the county’s neighbourhoods as safe places to live and socialise in.
“For those who just don’t get the message Operation Yuletide which aims to keep people safe has launched and officers will be cracking down on violence and disorder and alcohol fuelled anti-social behaviour during the festive period.”
