At Staines Magistrates Court yesterday (September 13), 40-year-old Kimberley Marshall  of Bracknell, pleaded guilty to one charge of assaulting an emergency worker and was given a six-month conditional discharge.

Marshall, a serving constable at the Metropolitan Police Service, assaulted a female Surrey police constable in Guildford on December 28 2023, when she kicked her in the stomach.

The incident occurred after she was arrested for an unrelated offence that has since been closed marked “No further action”.

The Metropolitan Police have said that Marshall remained suspended from duty. Misconduct proceedings are expected to follow.

For those convicted, assaults against emergency workers, police, firefighters, NHS workers and others in custodial roles carry the potential for heavier sentences than other assaults  since the Assaults on Emergency Workers (Offences) Act 2018 came into force on November 13 2018.

It has been reported that there are scores of such assaults each year in Surrey. 256 were recorded by Surrey Police between March 2020 and the end of 2022.
