Letter: Worplesdon Parish Council – Only Guilty of Being Good

Published on: 28 Jul, 2025
Updated on: 28 Jul, 2025

From Angela Richardson

former Conservative MP for Guildford

In response to: The Enduring Role of Parish and Town Councils

The Worplesdon Parish Council clerk Gaynor White and the assistant clerk Victoria Fear are both exceptional. The people that live in the villages that Worplesdon Parish Council covers, probably don’t know just how lucky they are.

When things run well and tick over nicely, most of us have no need to come into contact with our council.

Perhaps Brian Creese’s letter can be flipped around as a positive. Worplesdon Parish Council are guilty of simply being too good at what they do.

Demand that excellence from everyone else in local government with no excuses. WPC doesn’t make them.

Gaynor White is great and parish councils look after their villages. The borough provides very few of the services the town recieves to the rural areas of the borough. Street cleaning, hedge cutting, maintenance of ditches etc, all come under the parish council, plus the management of village halls and graveyards etc.
