Guildford’s Chapel Street has a well-deserved reputation for having some great places to eat, and the newest restaurant is Meat the Greek.

It opened in January, and the name is of course familiar as its owners previously ran their business as a takeaway, albeit at another premises in Chapel Street.

Friends Yannis (from Athens) and Antonios (from the island Syros) came to the UK their native Greece in 2012, to open their takeaway, followed by their Theion restaurant, also in Chapel Street, in 2019.

Their latest venture is themed around what they call the “true flavours of Greece”, and is essentially a fast-food restaurant.

Meat dishes are the main stay of the menu, while vegetarian options are also available.

As they say on their website: “We take pride in delivering a one-of-a-kind culinary experience that satisfies your cravings like nothing else can.

“Our commitment to excellence begins with sourcing the finest ingredients directly from Greece – from our succulent meats and freshly baked pita bread to the rich feta cheese, extra virgin olive oil, and hand-picked oregano.

“This dedication results in an exceptional fast-food establishment that serves up the most genuine, wholesome, and delectable Greek cuisine.”

They add: “Discover the true essence of the Mediterranean on our menu, featuring mouthwatering dishes like Souvlaki, where tender pork or chicken skewers are masterfully marinated with authentic Greek herbs.

“Our Gyros – pronounced ‘yeeros’ – will redefine your kebab experience, featuring delicate slices of pork and chicken that surpass anything you’ve tasted before.

“Served in platters or wraps (with the fries conveniently tucked inside!), you have the choice to enjoy your meal on-site or take it with you.

“Paired with our refreshing tzatziki sauce and freshly hand-cut fries, our fast food elevates your taste buds to a whole new level.”

The restaurant is open every day from noon to 10.30pm. Yannis said business is proving to be good, especially at weekends.
