A flood alert remains in place today as more rain is expected this week to fall on ground which has been saturated for some time. January 2026 was the fourth-wettest in almost 120 years.
The Environment Agency is closely monitoring the situation and its official warning states: “High river levels today may lead to flooding.
“Flooding is possible on February 8 overnight and into February 9.
“Flooding of low lying land and roads is expected to continue, especially in the Tilford and Godalming areas. Further rainfall is forecast over the next 24 hours. River levels are now falling but remain sensitive to further rainfall over the next few days.
“We are closely monitoring the situation.
“Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses. Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water.”

Ducks are said to like wet weather but who knows whether this Egyptian goose shares their predilection. It may do. Egyptian geese are actually members of the shelduck sub-family. Fiona Giles
