Staff and members at Guildford’s Spectrum leisure centre are getting ‘reddy’ to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation on Friday, February 7.

Ramp up the red logoThey are supporting the charity’s call to Ramp up the Red and  are being asked to wear something red on the day and donate what they can to this worthy cause. Class instructors want participants to wear something red too – whether it’s a T-shirt, hat, painted nails or even slapping on some lipstick for their workout.

“The British Heart Foundation is Freedom Leisure’s chosen charity this year and we’re looking forward to ramping up the red and joining the fight for every heartbeat,” said Steve May, Freedom Leisure area manager. “Many people with heart disease can’t swim, cycle, do a gym circuit or complete an exercise class: I would urge all our members who can do these things, to take a moment to reflect how lucky they are and help us support the British Heart Foundation on Friday.”

Coronary heart disease is the UK’s single biggest killer. It kills nearly one in six men and more than one in 10 women and is responsible for almost 74,000 deaths in the UK each year – an average of 200 people each day. There are currently 2.3 million people in the UK living with coronary heart disease.

Spectrum is operated by Freedom Leisure on behalf of Guildford Borough Council. For more information ask a member of the Customer Services team, call 01483 443322 or visit www.guildfordspectrum.co.uk

Good luck to all taking part in Ramp up in Red on Friday. I hope you raise loads of money for the British Heart Foundation, but most of all have fun.
