A women in her eighties died when a Honda Civic car hit a kerb and somersaulted into a lamp-post at the end of Church Lane outside Cranleigh Arts Centre on Tuesday afternoon (October 20).
Horrified onlookers described the turn-out of the emergency services, that included two air ambulances as an incredible spectacle.
Shocked and saddened by the death of the pedestrian, villagers began laying flowers at the scene this evening.
It took emergency services a considerable time to extricate a seriously injured couple from the car and they were flown by air ambulances to St George’s Hospital in Tooting.
Police are appealing for witnesses.
The incident brought Cranleigh High Street to a close this afternoon.
The High Street was still closed to traffic late this evening.
