Based on the letters and anecdotes of real Land Army girls, Lilies on the Land, is a lively, poignant and humorous production following the lives of four women from different walks of life who sign up to do their bit for the war effort.
It is being presented by Merrow Dramatic Society at Guildford’s Electric Theatre from Wednesday to Saturday, November 4 to 7.
The cast will be joined onstage by three singers, who will be providing live music from the period.
The production promises to be amusing, thought provoking and above all a fitting tribute to the forgotten army of the Second World War.
On the Saturday there will be a special matinee deal which includes tea and a scone – the perfect way to spend a November day.
There will also be a display of local wartime home front memories in the theatre’s foyer.
Director Amy Yorston said: “We are all getting very excited about the show, it’s very different to things we’ve previously staged and rehearsals are going brilliantly.
“Knowing that all of the lines are based on real experiences gives the script a powerful edge but there are also moments of great comedy – it truly reflects the overall experiences of these hardworking women.”
Tickets are £12.50/£11.50. Saturday Matinee 2.30pm, tickets £11 including tea, scone and jam.
