Guildford City visit Ashford Town tomorrow (September 13) looking to claim a win that will rekindle their season.
Ashford, like Guildford, were relegated from the Southern League last year and excepting an opening day defeat against Cove, they have won their subsequent six league fixtures against Colliers Wood (3-0), Westfield (2-0), Camberley (1-0), Knaphill (4-0), Bedfont (4-1) and Frimley Green (3-1) to sit in third position.
City for their own part currently have just three points gained from a 1-0 victory at Farnham. But as fans who have witnessed City in action will vouch though this doesn’t give a true picture of Guildford’s performances thus far this season.
Twice two goal leads have been squandered and, as against Chertsey last week, opposition sides have spent long spells under City pressure. Time and again Guildford has been unable to convert the numerous chances they create to close games out. Surely at some stage luck in front of goal will change and City will reap the benefits of their build up play.
On Saturday big striker Stefan Joseph is expected to return to the line-up after injury, whilst Navid Zandi and new signing John Barrow are added to the match day squad after promising performances against the British Army in a friendly match on Wednesday evening. The Army won 4-1 against a young City side, Junior Alade scoring City’s goal.
