Eagle radioThe Eagle Radio Trust is encouraging local community groups to submit an application ahead of the registered charity’s next round of grant reviews due to take place in April 2013.

The Trust is the official charity of Guildford based radio station 96.4 Eagle Radio and since its launch in 2007 it has:

  • Awarded more than 100 cash grants
  • Approved a majority of grants between £200 – £500
  • Awarded grants worth a combined £50,000
  • Helped schools, sports clubs and many community groups.

Trust Chairman Paul Marcus said: “The Trustees recognise the important role of local community initiatives and we also know how hard individuals have to work to make them successful.”

Peter Gordon, presenter and director at the radio station, said: “Some local examples of what this Eagle Radio initiative can do are:

  • an award to the Guildford Shakespeare Company, who have recently put on Macbeth, of some money to provide extra facilities for those with a disability and allow greater diversity in their audience;
  • then there was the Guildford 2nd Scout Group which, a little while ago, received £400 for new kitchen and toilet facilities at the scout hut;
  • and we provided funds to allow three young disabled children to attend outward bound events.

“A lot of bigger organisations get a lot of the attention but this is more about giving support to some of the smaller local organisations and projects where a little money can a make a big difference.

“So let’s see what people need, let’s see what people want and let’s see what people do. It does not have to be a local charity that requests the help, it can be a local community organisation that clearly needs some help.

“We like the idea of helping lots of different groups. It might not be masses and masses of money but it is specific sums, normally in smaller amounts, to help with specific projects.”

Applications can be submitted by post. For further information about applying for a grant from The Eagle Radio Trust visit www.964eagle.co.uk/trust/
