Anne Milton, Guildford’s MP, welcomed the English Lacrosse Association to Westminster where they launched their bid to host the Women’s World Cup in 2017.

Showing her support Anne signed the ‘Back the Bid’ England flag along with the Minister for Sport and the Olympics, Hugh Robertson MP.  Also showing support was Jeff Probyn, former England Rugby player and Lisa O’Keefe, Director of Sport at Sport of England.

If successful, Surrey Sports Park in Guildford will host the World Cup in 2017.  The Sports Park is not new to hosting international sporting events having previously welcomed the Lacrosse Home Internationals in April and the Women’s Rugby World Cup in 2012.

The English Lacrosse Association will find out if their bid has been successful in June.

Anne Milton said that ‘Bringing the 2017 Women’s World Cup to Guildford will be a great boost for the local area with the competition welcoming 30 lacrosse teams from around the world.  It’s also a great chance to celebrate an international sporting event right on our doorsteps.’
