A Guildford mother has been shortlisted for a national award, recognising her contribution to the Parent-Teacher Association of Christ’s College in Guildford.

Sophia Wyatt, who chairs the Friends of Christ’s College, has been nominated for Parentkind’s PTA Volunteer of the Year Award.

The nomination celebrates the work of the Association’s growing volunteer team, which raises funds to give pupils greater opportunities.

Sophia said: “I was genuinely surprised and incredibly touched to be nominated. Being Chair of FCC isn’t about recognition, it’s about making a difference to the school community and helping create opportunities for our young people.”

Recently, the school of almost 725 pupils has enjoyed new netball posts as a result of the PTA’s fundraising.

Previous projects made possible through the volunteers’ work have included second-hand uniform sales, student enrichment activities and school productions.

Sophia said: “We have wonderful volunteers who give up their time to support the school, and I’m really proud of what we’re achieving together. To be shortlisted nationally is lovely recognition, not just for me, but for everyone who contributes to FCC.”

Sophia, who runs a specialist skin clinic in Send, volunteers her experience in hair and make-up to support school activities, having previously worked on the likes of Keira Knightly and James McAvoy.

She is also an advocate for meningitis and sepsis awareness and disability inclusion, having lost both her lower legs to meningococcal septicaemia as a teenager.

The winner of the award will be announced later in the Autumn term at an online awards ceremony.

Public voting is still open for the award and anyone wanting to support Sophia’s nomination can vote for Candidate G here.
