Arrest Made Following Crossbow Attack at University – Man Seriously Injured

A 21-year-old Saudi national has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following
reports of a man being shot with a crossbow at the University of Surrey.

A man in his 50s, a former student at the university, was taken to hospital.

Officers were called to Manor Park Student Village, Guildford, at around 10am this morning (June 4)

The arrested suspect is currently in police custody. At 10.50am today a significant emergency services presence was said to remain in place but access to the Royal Surrey County Hospital was unaffected.

Chief Superintendent Jon Groenen said: “I appreciate that this incident will cause concern amongst our local communities, and I can reassure that we are not looking for anyone else in relation to this incident. We are working closely with the university as our investigation progresses.

“The suspect was detained at the scene shortly after the incident and an investigation is now underway to establish the circumstances of the assault.”

He continued: “The victim remains in a serious condition in hospital and his next of kin are aware and are being supported by officers.”
