Body Recovered From River Wey Believed to Be Of Missing Kayaker

A National Trust boat was used to transport the body across the river to a private car park to a waiting ambulance which was later seen leaving via Stoughton Road.

A body, believed to be that of missing kayaker Grant Broster, was recovered from the River Wey this evening (April 11). Mr Broster has been missing since his kayak capsized near Millmead on Easter Monday (March 30).

The Guildford Kayaking Club where some onlookers had gathered to watch the police operation.

A police operation commenced around 6pm, just upstream from the Row Barge pub, Bellfields, and almost opposite the Waterside Centre.

Guildford resident Grant Broster, 56, missing since Easter Monday (March 30).

A police statement said: “Officers were called to the area near the Waterside Centre just after 6pm on Monday, 11 April after a report that a man’s body had been found.

“Although formal identification has not yet taken place Mr Broster’s family have been notified.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr Broster at this difficult time.”

One Guildford resident at the scene said:  “How very sad. I just hope it helps the family have some closure.”
