Musicians and entertainers come together once again for a lovely Christmas concert this Saturday evening, December 9, at St Clare’s Church in Park Barn, starting at 7.30pm.
The award winning Rhythm of Life Community Choir are returning to wow once more with a mixture of seasonal songs and others from their repertoire. The choir is led by conductor Karen Taylor, with David Rose (Guildford historian and writer, etc) on guitar.
There will be songs from the vocal harmony group No Direction, plus other entertainers with some seasonal readings too.
And there’s more… as this year David Rose has invited local music legends Mick Douglas and John Kelly along.
Mick and John have played in many, many bands over the years including the Rockin’ Crescendos. They turned professional back in the early 1960s and went to West Germany for a spell, playing the famous Star club in Hamburg as well as US Army bases.
David, Mick and John are now known for their show Guildford the Rock ‘n’ Roll Years, which tells the story of the bands from the area who were on the local scene in the late 1950s and 60s (Mick and John were of course there!), plus the three play guitars and sing some songs from the era as part of the show.
At this concert at St Clare’s they will perform a few classic songs and then join in the grand finale with the choir, No Direction and one and all, to round off the evening with songs including Walking In A Winter Wonderland, Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree, Merry Xmas Everybody and White Christmas.
This is a fundraising concert for local charities and tickets are £5 for adults (£2 for under 16s) and can be reserved in advance from Brian Walter on 07510 057598 or purchased on the door.
You may like to make an extra donation towards the interval refreshments, if you’re able, to further boost the church’s fundraising total.
St Clare’s Church is in Cabell Road, Park Barn, Guildford GU2 8 JW. Doors for the concert will be open from 7pm.

Sounds like a good evening. Last year’s concert was great fun.
