Music festival GuilFest returns to Stoke Park this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, June 29 and 30, and the countdown has begun.
The organisers say: “It is unbelievable the Stranglers are headlining the main stage on Saturday and Sam Ryder headlining on Sunday.”
Joining them will be Shaun Ryder’s Black Grape, Peter Hook, From the Jam, Nouvelle Vague, Boyzlife, the Blockheads, Kiki Dee, Dutty Moonshine Big Band, the Skints, Elvana, the Vapors, the Bootleg Beatles, Urban Cookie Collective, and more.
Festival-goers will be able to immerse themselves in the Funky End Sunset Sessions, the very best of alternative dance, Balearic beats, disco, club classics and Ibiza anthems.
A winner of the best family festival in the UK, GuilFest plays host to the BigTopMania Kids Area. Expect a whole range of activities and family entertainment aimed for the younger GuilFest-goers.
These will include theatre productions of famous tales, hilarious clowns, breathtaking fire shows, acrobats, circus skills, kids’ rides and art and music workshops, culminating in a fancy dress parade on Sunday.
The Library Bus is an actual library within a 1950s bus where you can exchange books, play chess, draughts and table football. Read everything from Noddy to Shakespeare while lounging on sofas watching the world go by.
The Backyard Bug Experience will bring various bugs and spiders to educate children and adults alike.
Fruits of the Forager, with expert Emily Murphy, will take people on a foraging odyssey of mushrooms, fungi and herbal concoctions.
Guildford Games will host an interactive tent, bringing a selection of playable, blockbuster video games (all made in Guildford) and an exclusive opportunity to meet some of the talented developers.
At the GuilFest Literary Tent (curated By Fiery Bird Live Music Venue) there will be exciting names from the entertainment world and spoken word and poetry artists.
The Jokers! comedy tent will feature an array of comedians who have graced the screens of TV’s biggest shows. From side-splitting stand-up routines to hilarious improved acts, attendees can expect a rollicking good time.
For food and drink, there will be culinary cuisines from around the world with a variety of vegan and vegetarian options.
For those seeking respite, the Rustic Real Ale Bar, Cocktail Bar, Healing Field & Wellness Area offer a chance to stop and relax.
The organisers add: “Whether you’re a seasoned GuilFest veteran or keen to experience the event for the first time, GuilFest 2024 promises to be an unmissable chapter in the festival’s history.
“Gather your friends, pack your festival essentials, and immerse yourself in a weekend of unforgettable music and pure joy.”

Well done Tony Scott for perservering to get Guilfest back on its home turf. It’s great to see such a family oriented event back on in Guildford once more.

With the usual silence from Millmead, I wonder if the GBC required a large cash bond for damage repairs in Stoke Park as Conservatives did 10 years ago.
Whilst Tony Scott is to be applauded for the festival, the business/financial management has always been worthy of a feature in BBC’s Watchdog.
How many times has the organising company been wound up leaving debts mainly to local companies who also failed?
