Enjoyable Bowling Even If Results Didn’t Go Castle Green’s Way

Castle Green Bowling Club (CGBC) was defeated by Godalming Bowling Club by 41 shots to 22 on Tuesday, September 3.

The result was not entirely surpising, as Godalming lies third in the Mens’ Tuesday Triples League for the Guildford area, while Castle Green lies ninth.

Even so, CGBC managed a win on one rink, by 17-16 (skip Rob Williams, with Paul Plummer and Colin Summerhayes), while being defeated 25-5 on the other rink (skip Larry Webster, with Brian Wrest and Norman Pilkington). It was a lovely afternoon and a pleasure to be out on the green in good company.

On yet another fine sunny afternoon on Saturday August 31, CGBC enjoyed a pleasant afternoon of bowling at Milford.

A strong club whose women bowlers recently won the English ladies title at triples. Playing triples on three rinks, Milford managed a win by 65-32.

In footballing terms that would be equivalent to a score of about 2-1. All three Castle Green teams lost: Colin Summerhayes’ team of Lynn Smith and John Heyes lost by 10-25; Jill Bird’s team of Dorothy Newman and Peter Smith lost by 11-23. And Rob Williams’ team of David Newman and Hilary Vogel lost by 12-17.
