Guildford Flames fell behind by a pair before the game was even four minutes old at Cardiff and never recovered during an eventual 6-1 loss.

Nolan Yaremko converted an early powerplay at 1:51 and Brandon Estes doubled the lead 97 seconds later.

In the 12th minute, Panu Mieho made it a three-goal spread and another powerplay goal shortly after that by Ryan Barrow sent top-of-the-table Devils to the break in command, up by four.

Yaremko’s second at 34:51 and Kohen Olischefski less than a minute later made it a six-goal difference. A Justin Ducharme shorthanded marker just over three minutes from period time got Flames on the board and cut the deficit, but a scoreless third completed the Flames defeat.

Justin Fazio faced 44 shots, making 38 saves while Ben Bowns turned aside 13 of 14 shots on Cardiff’s net.

“There is not a lot to say about that game, where we were second best in every category,” said Head Coach Paul Dixon.

“We were not ready to play at a level that is needed against a team of that top calibre, and they made us pay for it.”

“We also found ourselves in a lot of penalty trouble and we don’t need to help a good team like that by playing shorthanded as much as we did.”

“We don’t have time to feel sorry for ourselves so we have to pick ourselves off the mat and get back home to be ready for Glasgow on Sunday.”
