Work to repair the collapse on Godstone High Street continues to move forward, with another key milestone reached this month.

SCC has now successfully completed the complex work to stabilise the ground and fill all areas of the damaged underground mine workings beneath the road. This critical phase reduces the risk of further ground movement and prepares the site for the next stage of repairs.

On Monday, April 20 2026, the site was formally handed over to SES Water to begin their phase of the programme. Their teams are now on site carrying out essential repairs to damaged water mains and reinstating pipework affected by the collapse. These works are currently progressing to schedule.

Once SES Water has completed its repairs, SCC will return to site to carry out the final reconstruction of the collapsed section of road. This will be the last major step before the road can safely reopen to traffic.

The county council is continuing to work closely with SES Water to minimise delays and reopen the road as soon as possible. In the next month, we aim to provide more clarity on a final completion date, subject to progress on the current phase of works.

The significant disruption this incident has caused for residents and businesses in Godstone is recognised and the council remains very grateful for the continued patience and understanding while this essential work is carried out.

For enquiries, SES Water’s Customer Liaison Officer can be contacted on 07368 504785 (Monday to Friday, 8am–5pm), or via their customer service team on 01737 772000 (option 2).
