Letter: How Can We Avoid Dump Queues?

In response to: We Can Change Our Rubbish Culture

I agree with the logic of the letter but I would observe that we have found it quite difficult to dispose of rubbish.

Last week we went to the Slyfield recycling centre to get rid of rubbish properly and found that there was a queue of cars about 1/2 mile long to get in. We decided to abandon our efforts and to take the rubbish away again.

I asked the official directing the traffic about it and he said that it is like it every day and there is no good time to go there.

Has anyone got any suggestions?

Unfortunately this is a result of the social distancing measures in place at the tip.

The number of vehicle bays available for domestic customers is less than half that available in ‘normal’ times.

Hopefully as we reach the ‘new normal’ more bays will be available and the queues will lessen.

Don’t bother with Dorking, which opens rarely and will not take plastic or household waste such as broken china. Leatherhead has queues of 40 minutes regularly. It is best to be there the minute it opens in the morning.
