Letter: I Am Sorry for Incorrect Advice on Reported Fly-tipping

Fly-tipped waste A3 A31 slip road

From George Potter

Lead councillor for Environment and Climate Change

In response to: Councils Point to Each Other Over Reported Roadside Fly-tipping

Clearing fly-tipping can be the responsibility of Guildford Borough Council (GBC) depending on the location, land ownership and circumstances.

In this case, the area that needs clearing is the responsibility of GBC. We are in the process of arranging a lane closure on the road to ensure we can do this safely, and as soon as possible. I am sorry for the initial confusion and incorrect advice that was given.

Understanding the circumstances that affect which road is the responsibility of National Highways, Surrey County Council or GBC can be challenging. A mapping exercise is being conducted to ensure that better clarity can be given in the future.

In the meantime, I would encourage people to continue using the “Contact Us” form on our website to let us know of instances such as this.”

According to SCC the area in question, A31 Farnham Road is the responsibility of National Highways Agency.

This is under National Highways under reference 23284157 – LOT no 1566100125.
