I would like to share with your readers the letter I have sent to Loseley Estate regarding the closure of the footpath on the Hog’s Back.

Dear Loseley Estate,

We are very disappointed that you have blocked access to the permissive path on the south side of the Hog’s Back track which we have enjoyed using for the last 25 years, and ask you to reconsider your decision.

We fully accept that use of this path is entirely at your discretion but your actions to prevent its use have denied many locals the opportunity to enjoy the magnificent views to the south, including the amazing cloud effects in the valleys, which are genuinely uplifting and inspiring. We would even go so far as to say that these views (and the walk itself) benefit people’s mental health.

We hope that you will allow this path to be used again very soon. Some signage to the effect that its use is at the Estate’s discretion could be used, while some stakes to indicate the line of where the field crop begins, which we are sure walkers would respect, might help to overcome any concerns that the crop might be damaged.

It would be so appreciated by the local community which is still smarting from the damage to the nearby Bluebell Woods (Bummoor Copse).

Thank you for considering this request. We look forward to a positive outcome.
