Letter: We Need to Reintroduce Guildford’s Park & Ride

Published on: 5 Feb, 2026
Updated on: 5 Feb, 2026

From Robert Taylor

In response to: The Shocking £20m+ Cost of Cancelling the Guildford Park Road Development

The Park & Ride is no longer an option from the villages around Guildford. Only two of the four remain.

Artington remains with a bus service which does not accept bus passes, so not as popular as it once was.

All of these sites were introduced to keep vehicles out of Guildford. If parking in the town centres is to be discouraged, there needs to be more reliable public transport and Park & Ride reintroduced.

Bring back The Spectrum Park & Ride. Not everyone can walk from London Road using the bus services 6, 18, 715 etc, due to disabilities. Anyway, who wants to walk across Stoke Park in middle of winter when it is dark, cold and muddy.

Surely this would be a benefit for people going to watch Guildford City FC or Guildford Flames play. The Spectrum would benefit from more people coming via public transport!

This ludicrous farce absolutely sums up Guildford. A bus service that doesn’t take passes while the town is a stinking mess of jams and congestion almost 24/7 with ludicrous parking charges and a dying High Street.

This is what you get after decades – and still ongoing – utterly incompetent council “managment”.
