A 70-year-old man died when a light aircraft crashed into a Worplesdon field on Tuesday afternoon (October 6).

An eyewitness said the aircraft went down at around 3.30pm in a field off Holly Lane that runs between Aldershot Road and Worplesdon. Another aircraft appeared to circle the crash site before an air ambulance was seen to arrived at 3.47pm. First responders “lifted the wing” of the upturned wreck and appeared to conclude that nothing could be done for the pilot.

Witnesses to the clean-up operation noted that it was difficult to tell if the aircraft was manned, as it was quite small, and the field is privately owned.

Surrey Police confirmed “a large emergency services presence in the area including partners from Surrey Fire & Rescue and the South East Coast Ambulance Service“. The scene was quickly cleared, with no evidence of the incident left behind.

The search plane or recovery aircraft is trackable on Flight Radar, but the tail number or any information about the plane involved in the crash is currently unknown.
