The annual Mayor’s Awards for Service to the Community recognises individuals, groups and organisations who have gone above and beyond to serve their local community.

Anyone can nominate an individual or an organisation that has done outstanding work in the community to improve the lives of others or foster good relationships.

Nominations are now open. People have until 5pm on Monday, February 17, to submit a nomination.

The Mayor of Guildford, Sallie Barker MBE, says: “We want to recognise the amazing contribution made by individuals and groups across our borough. If you know someone who goes above and beyond to help their community, or a group that makes a positive difference to local people, tell us about them.

“Your nomination can help us celebrate their achievements and inspire others to get involved in their local community.”

Jane Derbyshire, County Club Chair

“The Mayor’s award is also a great opportunity for us to work with other local organisations. I’d like to thank The County Club for kindly sponsoring the Awards Ceremony again this year.”

Jane Derbyshire, Chairman of the County Club, adds: “Recognising the unseen hard work done in our community is such a privilege. The County Club is proud to sponsor the Mayor’s awards and helping to make the event special for all the invited guests.”

Successful nominees will be invited to attend the awards event in April 2025.

Last year Care for Guildford was one of the groups which received an award.

Here’s what Linda Smith, Chairman, Care for Guildford, has said: “It was a real honour for Care for Guildford to be recognised in the Mayor’s Awards for Service to the Community last year. And for our long-standing volunteers, Zita Delaney and Jackie Smith, to get the recognition they deserve. Both Zita and Jackie have volunteered for over 30 years and have played a key role in evolving and managing our charity.

“The award was particularly important to us at a time when demand for our service continues to be at an all-time high.”
