On a fine sunny afternoon on Tuesday August 27, Castle Green Bowling Club’s (CGBC) men managed an excellent win by 45-33 against Holloway Hill in the Tuesday Triples League, at Holloway Hill in Godalming.
The big winners, by 29-11, were the team of Derek Redgwell (skip) with Peter Smith and Nick Hinde; our losing team comprised Brian West (skip) with Colin Summerhayes and David Newman, with a score of 16-22. Overall, an excellent team performance.
The club celebrated its finals day with a number of in-house competitions that started in light rain and finished in glorious sunshine.
Julie Hinde beat Paul Plummer to win the West Trophy. Vivien Smith beat Jill Bird to win the Veterans cup.
Shirley West beat Mary Reeves to take the Three-Woods championship. Vivien Smith then beat Shirley West to take the Ladies Trophy.
Colin Summerhayes managed a win over Fran West in the Two-Woods. And Larry Webster and Paul Plummer won the Pairs competition against Jill Bird and Hazel Sage.
The day was brilliantly organized by Shirley West and Vivien Smith, who put together an excellent lunch of hot dogs onions and beans with the help of a few other cooks.
The finals will continue on Sunday, September 1, with the Mens’ Championship and the Handicap match.
