A “topping out” ceremony in the rebuild of Guildford crematorium has marked this week’s completion of the new roof on the main chapel building.

The rebuild is due to end in November this year. The crematorium and associated buildings have been completely redesigned and modernised.

Pauline Searle (Lib Dem, Stoughton), lead councillor for Arts, Parks and Countryside said: “It’s really great to see the new buildings almost complete with the addition of the new roof.

“We are on track to open in November as planned, providing a peaceful environment in which families can mark the passing of a loved one.”

In addition to the main crematorium, a Flower Room, Book of Remembrance Room, reflective pool, landscaping and new car-parking all form part of the site.

As most people these days have a service at the crematorium rather than a church, it would be a good idea to have at least two chapels to meet the demand. Most other crematoriums have a minimum of two chapels, one small and one large. It would save a long waits currently endured. Also, why is it not possible to have services on a Saturday? This would be convenient for people at work during the week.
