There are awards and then there are special awards. And a Guildford restaurant owner has been recognised for his outstanding support to the Guildford the community.

Yameem Deedar of the Shahin Tandoori restaurant on Woodbridge Hill has been presented with a certificate signed by the Lord Lieutenant of Surrey, Michael More-Molyneux, recording his gratitude to Deedar (as he is known to many) in appreciation of his services to the community.

Deputy Lieutenant of Surrey David Hypher OBE presents Yameem Deedar of the Shahin Tandoori restaurant with his award on behalf of the Lord Lieutenant of Surrey, Michael More-Molyneux.

The presentation was made by Deputy Lieutenant David Hypher OBE, who nominated Deedar for the award. David and his wife have been dining at the restaurant for many years and know full well the fundraising Deedar has been involved with.

Last year David and Deedar spoke about catering for the annual jazz festival on Wood Street Village green that raises funds for good causes. With more than 400 people attending, Deedar supplied curries with proceeds of £1,300 going towards overall funds to the chosen charity, the Guildford-based play scheme Challengers.

The Shahin has also hosted many curry evenings to raise funds for the Mayor of Guildford’s Charities’ fund.

And Deedar also gives support to the Guildford branch of a Bangladeshi society known as MECA, and well as supporting charities and good causes in Bangladesh itself.

He said he was very proud and humbled to receive this latest award that is on display in the restaurant alongside his Mayor of Guildford’s award for service to the community that he received in 2020.

Deedar has been the owner of the popular restaurant for over 30 years.

The award proudly on display at The Shahin Tandoori restaurant, Woodbridge Hill, Guildford.
