Her offical appointment, known as being inducted and installed, was by the Bishop of Guildford, the Rt Revd, Andrew Watson; and the Archdeacon of Surrey, the Ven Stuart Beake.

As Worplesdon comes under the patronage of Eton College, the college’s representative the Revd Roger Royle (who used to be on Sir Terry Wogan’s breakfast show) presented Alex to the bishop so that he could start the Declaration of Assent and the Institution.

The Mayor of Guildford, Gordon Jackson, and the Chairman of Worplesdon Parish Council, Dr Paul Cragg, were in the congregation as were a number of clergy drawn from the Guildford and Winchester dioceses.

There was also a large supportive group from Alex’s former parish in Lymington.

Prior to entering the church, Alex trained as a nurse and then spent some time in sales management; she is also a qualified psychotherapist. Alex has one daughter, Stephanie.

After the service, the congregation made its way to Worplesdon Memorial Hall for refreshments where Alex thanked everybody for the generous welcome to her and her daughter Stephanie and for coming to her installation and looked forward to joining the Worplesdon community, to leading and encouraging the parish in worship and prayer and to continue the growth of the Christian ministry in the parish.

There is no date on this article.

Is it possible to change the site, so that historical articles have a date first published rather than only today’s date in the stay connected field?

Editor’s response: article publication dates are visible on the front page of the website or in lists that result from searches but the date disappears when an article is opened. It is on our list of desired changes but unfortunately we are unable to make the change ourselves.
The date of publication for this article was October 17, 2016.
