A group of up to 15 young people from the the halow project are cycling 250 miles this weekend (May 4 to 6) outside Waitrose in Guildford in a static display.

The Guildford-based halow project supports young people with a learning disability through its social activities, daytime activities such as Cook and Grow and Building Futures and through its one-to-one support workers for young people.

An actual bike ride is the premier fundraising event for the halow project and sees more than 100 riders cycling 250 miles over the weekend from London to Guildford via Northern France.

Young people of the halow project aim to meet the riders at the finish line having completed the mileage themselves as a team.

Ann Kenney, director of the halow project, said; “Our work is about inspiring people to achieve their own personal goals and develop skills to support them living an independent life. The young people of Building Futures have worked together this year to plan train for their own ride.

“Cuts to social services are impacting greatly on the provision of activities, programmes and events like halow’s and efforts to fundraise for the charity are greatly appreciated by the families and young people alike.”

Will Haws, one of the young people taking part, said; “ We want everyone to come along to Waitrose and support us cycling, maybe even join in to help us, and make donations toward the fundraising that is so important to us.”

You can help by visiting the Static halow250 ride at Waitrose Guildford on Saturday between 9.30am and 4.30pm and on Sunday from 10.15am to noon.

A donation towards their= efforts can be on their fundraising page https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-portal/fundraiserPage?pageId=927390
