Roy Hunt – jailed for eight years

A mother accused an 84-year-old Guildford man of  being “a monster” who had taken away her daughter’s innocence after he was sentenced to eight years in prison at Guildford Crown Court today (May 24).

Roy Hunt, of Somertons Close, Stoughton, was found guilty of nine offences of sexual assault, sexual activity and sexual assault by penetration on a child under 13.

In addition to the prison sentence he was given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

The court heard how the child was just six years old in 2017 when Hunt began sexually assaulting her. He implored her to keep his crimes a secret, but in June 2021 she was able to write her mother a note explaining that Hunt had subjected her to repeated sexual assaults.

The mother of the child said: “He took away a little girl’s innocence and for that he is a monster.

“Every child of her age should be having play dates, going to the cinema, days at the beach and strolling through life without a care in the world…however both she and I have had this hanging around us for years… all because Roy could not take responsibly for his sexual desires.”

Detective Constable Claire Phillips, who investigated the case, said: “Firstly, I want to recognise the girl’s strength during the investigation.

“She was under 10 years old when she told her mother what Hunt had been inflicting on her and was able to give police a detailed and consistent account of what took place.

“Hunt being jailed for his abhorrent crimes is down to the evidence she provided.

“Now that he is in prison, I hope she – and her family – will be able to move on from this knowing how incredibly courageous she has been throughout.”
