18,000 Surrey Children to Get Half-term Free Meals

Free school meals will be supplied to all 18,000 eligible children in Surrey this half-term, the county council has said.

The money is provided by the government as part of the £170m Covid Winter Support Grant announced in November 2020. So far, the grant has helped 26,661 households in Surrey.

Food vouchers worth £15 per child have been sent to parents and young people by email or text. Printed vouchers have been provided to parents who cannot access them online.

These vouchers can be exchanged only for food and can be used in most supermarkets and the McColl’s chain of local shops.

The national free school meals programme covers only term time.

National provider Wonde will send vouchers direct to ease the burden on schools already busy coping with the impacts of Covid-19.

Parents or young people who have received vouchers or who have questions can find out more on the School Vouchers support website.
