The 82 year old Normandy man seriously injured by burglars

An 82-year-old man suffered serious injuries following an aggravated burglary at a property in the Normandy near Guildford last week.

The local man was at home when two men broke into the house on Friday (20 July) sometime between 12 noon and 5pm and assaulted him, causing serious head and hand injuries.  The victim was discovered by a motorist from a passing hospital transport vehicle in the Aldershot Road after he had tried to pursue the intruders.

He was taken to Frimley Park Hospital where his condition is described as stable.

Detective Constable Dan Chant said: “This was an horrific unprovoked attack on an elderly man and I am appealing for any information which might help locate these offenders.  Anyone who may have been in the area and seen someone acting suspiciously or a vehicle being driven erratically is asked to call Surrey Police as soon as possible.

“I would like to take this opportunity to reassure the community that crimes of this nature are thankfully extremely rare.”

Information can be given to officers at Surrey Police on 101 quoting GD/12/6702.  Alternatively the independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously and free of charge on 0800 555 111.
