A late Glasgow Clan goal tied it to split the points one each ahead of overtime but then just 83 seconds into the three on three tiebreaker, the Scottish club secured their first league win of the campaign with the final blow to hand Flames a 3-2 home ice defeat last night (November 1) at The Spectrum.
Nate Kallen had the only marker of the opening set when the scored less than two minutes in.
Cole Sanford doubled the lead at 31:46, but David Madsen in the period’s late states cut the visitor’s deficit to a single to begin the third.
Inside the last 10 minutes it looked like Clan had pulled fully even, but a timely Coach’s challenge for goaltender interference from the home bench sent the play to video review and, and after a short look, it was overturned to keep Spectrum’s men up by a single.
Clan kept up the pressure for the minutes that followed, however, and it paid off with a clean goal 95 seconds from time to at least guarantee a table point, forcing overtime where they tacked on the second and secured the road win.
Brad Arvanits made 45 stops on 48 shots while Glasgow’s Liam Soulière had 19 saves on 21 shots.
“We had our moments early on, good penalty killing and a good powerplay to get us started in the right direction,” said Assistant Coach Andrew Hemmings.
“Unfortunately, later in the game, and particularly the third period, we were entirely on our back foot. We allowed them to just come at us in waves and eventually they were able to break through and take a win.”
“We have a week ahead of us to look at where it went wrong, and we need to find a way to be a lot better over a pair games when we visit Belfast Saturday and Sunday.”
